Getting Your Project Funded – Experiences at Public Sector Organizations

Thursday, December 12

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

The Future is Now

Erik Carlsen
Sr. Director – Financial Sales Enablement, ConvergeOne, Inc.

We all know that funding is not getting easier to obtain for our needed IT projects. Take a look at examples from other government entities at how they have worked with the CFO to creatively fund projects using five-year rotating technology plan which complies with the customer’s yearly budgets.

As IT professionals, we may not have the experience to know just how to “language” justification for an IT project in a way that is compelling for Finance to create the ROI and present to the leadership for approval. IT projects are not as visible as other government projects, therefore they are more difficult to tell the story of why the funding is important.

During this session, we will discuss some terms which will assist you in determining how to tell the story for funding and provide examples from other public sector entities.

Learning Objectives

  1. Explore how to have open conversations with various teams about justifying IT expenditures.
  2. Discover how to lessen your hesitancy in order to interact with financial teammates.
  3. Learn how to speak in basic “finance” terms.
