Alan R. Shark Leadership Award | PTI Members Only

New for this year, the Alan R. Shark Leadership Award serves to recognize an exceptional local government technology leader that embodies the ideals it’s namesake practiced in his work: leading with integrity, delivering meaningful results, mentoring others, and advancing the profession through collaboration and knowledge sharing.

ABOUT GOLDEN GOVIT

The Golden GOVIT Awards recognize government agencies and other public sector institutions that have advanced government technology through collaboration, innovation, service, and individual leadership. An agency or individual can nominate themselves, or they can be nominated by an internal or external source that has direct knowledge and experience with the nominee.

Eligibility: All nominees must be employed by federal, regional, or state agencies, counties, cities/townships, or state colleges/universities. This award is open to both PTI members and non-members. All nominated projects must have been implemented (or in beta stage) within two years of the submission deadline.

There will be one award recipient selected from each of the following categories:

Collaboration A joint effort between two or more government agencies, two or more departments within a single agency, or between government agencies and private firms or nonprofit organizations that use shared resources to create a new product or program, resulting in improved service delivery to individuals, families, and/or communities.

Innovation – A product, program, or service that disrupts the current status quo and meets these three criteria: novelty (the degree of newness and uniqueness), impact (the magnitude and scope of improvement to government efficiency), and replicability (the potential for replication in other government agencies or sectors).

Service – The delivery of digital information and transactional services that make a difference in the lives of citizens. Nominations should demonstrate a strong focus on end-user accessibility and experience, a high level of citizen engagement, incorporation of modern technologies, and timely, informative content.

Individual Leader – An individual who champions and implements innovation, inspires collaboration, is focused on improving service, and demonstrates a personal commitment to advancing professional and career development within their organization.

All nominations will be carefully reviewed by a diverse panel of public sector leaders. The nominees who receive the highest number of votes in each category will be selected as award recipients. In the event of a tie, Fusion Learning Partners (the host of the Symposium) will make the final selection.

Award recipients will receive their awards on the final day of the GOVIT Leadership Summit and Symposium, happening November 8-10, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bloomington, MN. Each award recipient will receive one complimentary registration to attend the symposium portion of the conference (Nov 9-10) and accept their award in person. For project-based awards, this complimentary registration will be provided to one designated representative.

Nominations must be submitted by 11:59 PM CST on Friday, September 4, 2026. Technical support will only be available until 4:00 PM that day. Please plan accordingly.
