Flexibility in Strategic Planning to Respond to Changing Organizational Needs

Julie Baker, Hennepin County

We’ve learned many things over the last year, including that change will continue at a rapid pace. Linear strategic planning processes that take years to complete and implement no longer match the speed of technology and organization changes. The Hennepin County IT Strategy Management team modified its planning process to be more nimble by utilizing short-term, mid-term and long-term planning activities to help IT leaders manage resources and strategy progress, while ensuring IT has the flexibility to shift work to the county’s top priorities. We’ve incorporated agile techniques into our process to help us adapt through each year, in response to changing needs in the organization. This session will cover our strategy management playbook and the activities we use to manage short, mid and long-term planning needs.
