Human Centered Design – Co-creating with users to build better products to ensure citizens receive the support they require

Walt Sedlazek

At IBM we believe that the systems of the world should work in service of people. At the heart of our human-centered mission is Enterprise Design Thinking: a framework to solve our users’ problems at the speed and scale of the modern enterprise. During this session we will introduce what Design Thinking is: the mindset that aims to improve the situation of people through the experiences they have. We will describe how the GHHS team has adopted the Design Thinking approach to build and improve our products, working directly with our customers and end users to ensure we are constantly delivering value and ultimately achieving our goal of helping people receive the support they require. Our Sponsor User program is a fundamental key to achieving the principles of our Design Thinking approach. Sponsor Users are real end-users, who bring their experience and expertise to the team. As part of this session, we will describe how our Sponsor User program is designed and share an example of the significant results achieved through our engagement with NYC HRA through this program. We will also describe another process used to deliver human-centered co-creation which is the IBM Garage method. IBM Garage is an end-to-end model for accelerating digital transformation. It helps you generate innovative ideas and equips you with the practices, technologies, and expertise to rapidly turn those ideas into business value. Please join us and learn how to co-create with us!
